Family Weekend 2015

All family members of current students are invited to visit Whitworth during Family Weekend (formerly Parents' Weekend). The weekend gives families an opportunity to join in the Whitworth experience by inviting them to take part in a class led by a member of the university's great faculty, hearing from Whitworth President Beck A. Taylor, and enjoying various campus events. Additional information regarding the weekend is listed below. We hope to see you in October!  
 
 
You must complete all steps of the form to be registered for this event. Payment by credit or debit card is required. You will receive an immediate confirmation email if you have successfully registered.

Important Information: 

  • Registration Fees:

    • Adult (18+): $45 (includes commemorative mug, dessert reception, entry to the football game, convenient access to all meals and activities, free parking)
    • Youth (13-17): $35 (includes dessert reception, entry to the football game, convenient access to all meals and activities)
    • Child (5-12): $25 (includes dessert reception, entry to the football game, convenient access to all meals and activities)
    • Young Child (0-4): Free (includes dessert reception, entry to the football game, convenient access to all meals and activities)
  • Before you register,  we recommend that you have the names of your guests available (if applicable). 
  • Payment by credit or debit card is required to complete the online registration form.
  • Online registration is available until Thursday, October 15, at 5 p.m.; after this time, "at the door" pricing will apply.
  • No refunds available after Friday, October 9, 2015.

10 a.m. - 3 p.m. | Why Whitworth Day
Why Whitworth is a program for prospective students and their parents that takes place on select dates during the fall and spring semesters. For more information and to register, please go to www.whitworth.edu/whywhitworth.
 
10 a.m. – 6 p.m. | Art Exhibit in Oliver Gallery
 
7 a.m. - 7 p.m. | Mind and Hearth Coffee Shop Open

3 p.m. - 7 p.m. | Registration Check-in, Hixson Union Building (HUB)
Pick up your Family Weekend nametag for which you pre-registered. And, of course, don't forget your new Whitworth mug!
 
6:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. | Dessert Reception, HUB
Families of current students are warmly invited to join President Beck A. Taylor for a dessert reception in the HUB.  Mingle with other parents and students, and then, if you like, attend the fall theatre production.  Price: Complimentary for all family members who pre-register for Family Weekend. Just show your nametag at the door!
 
7 p.m. | Volleyball vs. Pacific Lutheran University
 
7:30 p.m. | Theatre Production: William Shakespeare's Richard III, Cowles Auditorium
You may purchase tickets online at www.whitworth.edu/theatretickets.  Tickets will be mailed starting in September. Price: $10/regular, $8/senior and students, $5 Whitworth students.
 

Saturday, Oct. 17

8 – Noon | Registration Check-in, HUB
Pick up your Family Weekend nametag for which you pre-registered. And, of course, don't forget your new Whitworth mug!
 
8 – 10 a.m. | Breakfast Buffet, HUB
Converse with other Whitworth families and enjoy breakfast before the full day of activities. Price: Included in package; $15 at the door.
 
8 a.m. - 7 p.m. | Mind and Hearth Coffee Shop Open

9 - 9:45 a.m. | President's Address, Cowles Auditorium
All are invited to hear an informal address from President Beck A. Taylor, who will welcome all families and guests to this special weekend.
 
10 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Art Exhibit in Oliver Gallery
 
10 - 10:50 a.m. | Session #1: Mini-Colleges (3 options per session) OR Campus Tour
Each attendee may choose a mini-college session or a campus tour during registration check-in.  Mini-college sessions will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Mini-College Session #1: Richard III: On the Stage and On the Page presented by Diana Trotter, Ph.D., Professor of Theatre and Pam Parker, Ph.D., Professor of English
  • Mini-College Session #2: Topic presented by Jerry Sittser, Ph.D., Professor of Theology
  • Mini-College Session #3: Orientation 2.0. We know that families of first-year students have new questions six weeks after opening weekend, and we want to help!  Representatives from Academic Affairs, Student Accounts, Security, Student Life, the Registrar’s Office will present on the top three questions and tips from each office, and will be available for a brief Q&A session. Moderated by Josh Cleveland, ’01, Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Relations.
 
11 - 11:50 a.m. | Session #2: Mini-Colleges (3 options per session) OR Campus Tour

Families are invited, with their students, to pick up their picnic lunch to take to the game of their choice, or just to pick a spot on campus and enjoy the fall scenery.  Price: Included in package; $15 at the door.
 
1 p.m. | Football vs. Pacific Lutheran University
Price: Included in package; $10 at the door.  Just show your nametag at the gate!
 
2:30 p.m. | Men's Soccer vs. George Fox University
 
6 p.m. | Volleyball vs. University of Puget Sound
 
7:30 p.m. | Theatre Production: William Shakespeare's Richard III, Cowles Auditorium

Families are invited to visit residence halls across campus to participate in activities led by student leaders.
